“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22
I’ve struggled with weight most of my life. I’ve begun to believe that I’ll never be set free from the desire to overeat. But, how is it that I believe that God can work miracles in the lives of others but not with an area of addiction that I’m struggling with? I think the first step in beginning a journey to live a healthier lifestyle is taking a moment to reflect on God’s Word and His glory.
First, do you believe that God wants you to be thin? I’ve tossed this one back and forth. The world has jaded our thinking about our bodies. But, I believe that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I think God designed my body to be healthier than its current condition. I don’t think obesity was something God had in mind when He first formed me in my mother’s womb. So, I think asking to be healthier aligns with His will for me.
Second, do you believe that God can do ANYTHING? Can He move mountains? Can He make the blind see? Can He save our souls? If you answered yes (and I certainly hope you did) then ask yourself, can God change me? Can He change my heart? Can He make me thinner? Can He work in my life?
NOW BELIEVE THE ANSWER!!!
As I was reading my Bible yesterday, I came to the following story in Matthew 21: “18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, He was hungry. 19Seeing a fig tree by the road, He went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then He said to it, ‘May you never bear fruit again!’ Immediately the tree withered. 20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. ‘How did the fig tree wither so quickly?’ they asked. 21 Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
I don’t believe that a New Year’s resolution is enough for a major life change. I’ve been there, done that. BUT, I do believe that God is faithful to His Word. He promises here that we’ll receive whatever we ask for in prayer if we believe. Ask God today for what you need, and believe in His faithfulness without doubting! In fact, let’s pray together now!
Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You with a thankful heart for Your Word. We are encouraged to hear that we are not in a battle by ourselves. Lord, we confess that we don’t feel like we’ll be able to change. But, God, we believe that You can do ALL things. We ask right now, in Jesus’ name, to be healthy and thin for Your glory. Do a work in our lives that brings honor to You. Help us believe and not doubt. We thank You for the POWER that You bring to our lives. SO BE IT! In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
